Patent number: 8746630Abstract: In a switch including a switch frog (1) with a movable frog point (2) and wing rails (5, 6), wherein the wing rails (5, 6) in the region of the frog point (2) each have a rail profile which is lower than that of a standard rail, the wing rails (5, 6) are designed as Vignol rails whose region configured with a lower rail profile is produced by metal-forming departing from the Vignol rail profile.Type: GrantFiled: January 12, 2009Date of Patent: June 10, 2014Assignees: VAE Eisenbahnsysteme GmbH, VAE GmbHInventors: Heinz Ossberger, Thomas Klemen, Gernot Krenn

Patent number: 7185860Abstract: A modular tongue switch assembly comprises a tongue pivotally connected to a slide surface, held down by a pivot retainer. The slide surface consists of slide plate sections removably attached to corresponding bed plate sections, which are in turn welded onto a base plate. Floating brace blocks hold a non-integral stock rail in place on the base plate. When the tongue moves, a horizontal lever arm actuates an inner box assembly housed within an outer box and containing the conductor rail, allowing the passing train to maintain contact with the conductor rail, if necessary. A novel rodding and lever arrangement is used.Type: GrantFiled: December 2, 2004Date of Patent: March 6, 2007Assignee: VAE Nortrak North America, Inc.Inventors: Cory O'Brien, Gary Click

Patent number: 7121513Abstract: A rail switch frog (1) includes a movable frog point (5) slidingly guided within a base frame (2), which frog point is movable into abutment on the wing rails (6, 7) and laterally supported in its abutment positions by supporting elements (10) fixed to the base frame (2). An end-position securing device (12) is provided for resiliently pressing the frog point (5) in its abutment position against the wing rail (6, 7) and the supporting elements (10), which end-position securing device is arranged within the space delimited by the base frame (2) and is connected with the base frame (2), or the supporting elements (10), as well as with the frog point (5).Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 2002Date of Patent: October 17, 2006Assignees: VAE Eisenbahnsysteme GmbH, VAE GmbHInventor: Josef Leitner

Patent number: 5618013Abstract: A movable point for a crossing frog for railway apparatus of great length, incorporated in long welded rails. The point (7) is comprised of a single steel element, which comprises integral seating cross members (8). The rigidity of the point varies along all its length from a minimum adjacent a thin forward portion (9) to a maximum adjacent a wide rear portion (10). The point is constituted by a piece of austenitic manganese steel. The point can be of cast steel or can be formed by laminating and/or forging, followed by machining.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 1996Date of Patent: April 8, 1997Assignee: Cogifer- Compagnie Generale d'Installations Ferroviaires (Societe Anonyme a Directoire)Inventor: Philippe Mugg

Patent number: 5366184Abstract: The present invention relates to a seat for the movable point in a cradle of a crossing frog incorporated in long welded rails and the process for production of such a seat. The seat is characterized in that the connection between the movable point (1) and the element (2") of the cradle constituted by two rails (3 and 4) is effected by an essentially mechanical assembly. The invention is more particularly applicable to the field of the construction of railway equipment, particularly, crossing frogs.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 1993Date of Patent: November 22, 1994Assignee: Cogifer-Compagnie Generale d'Installations FerroviairesInventors: Gerard Testart, Frederic Hege

Patent number: 5133522Abstract: A process for producing a crossing frog with moving point (1) for very long railway switches incorporated in long welded rails. The frog also comprises a cradle (2) in two elements (3 and 4), one molded and the other not molded. The method comprises welding, on a point side of the frog, the molded element (3) of the cradle (2) to the rolling rails (7) of an intermediate track of a branch, fixing parts (5 and 5') to the moving point (1) so as to form the non-molded element (4) of the cradle (2); rigidifying the non-molded element (4); interconnecting, by means of a non-welded joint, the subassembly formed by the molded element (3) welded to the rolling rails (7) and the subassembly formed by the non-molded element (4) formed by the parts (5 and 5') and the moving point (1), and finally, welding the moving point (1) to the rolling rails (9) on a heel side of the frog.Type: GrantFiled: June 3, 1991Date of Patent: July 28, 1992Assignee: Cogifer (CIE Generale d'Installations Ferroviares), S.A.Inventor: Gerard Testart

Patent number: 5082214Abstract: A crossing frog with moving point (1) for very long railway switches incorporated in long welded rails, comprises a cradle (2) in two elements (3 and 4), one molded and the other not molded. One element (3) is of molded steel, of which at least the two ends (3A and 3B) on the point side and the two ends (3C and 3D) on the heel side are shaped as a rail profile. However, only the rail profile of the two ends (3A and 3B) effectively serves for rolling, the non-molded element (4) being mainly made up of parts (5 and 5') produced integrally as rails and connected to the two ends (3C and 3D) on the heel side of the molded part (3). Neither the rail profile of the two ends (3C and 3D) nor the rail profile of the parts (5 and 5') effectively serves as rolling surface, the moving point (1), for its part, being produced integrally as rails of which all the upper faces effectively serve as rolling surface.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 1990Date of Patent: January 21, 1992Assignee: Cogifer (Cie Generale d'Installations Ferroviaires), S.A.Inventor: Gerard Testart

Patent number: 4953814Abstract: In a railway switch comprising a frog having a movable main and auxiliary point, the main and auxiliary point are formed by using thick-web standard rail sections and asymmetric tongue profiles of smaller height as compared with the thick-web standard rail sections which are arranged as outer wing rails. The difference in height between the height of the main and auxiliary points and the height of the outer wing rails is greater than the height of the rail feet of the main and auxiliary points.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 1989Date of Patent: September 4, 1990Assignee: Voest-Alpine Maschinenbau Gesellshaft m.b.H.Inventors: Johannes R.
