Abstract: An electromagnetic induction device having an array of linearly arranged wires spanning between a pair of conductor plates forming a parallel circuit between each of the wires. The wires are arranged forming a plurality of planes, which are stacked into layers. Multiple induction devices are assembled together providing at least one “inductor” and at least one “inductee”. A moving magnetic field comprised of concentric circles is created in and around the at least one inductor when a cyclic current flows in the said wires. A voltage and current is induced by the said moving magnetic field. The field propagates then collapses through the wires of the inductees in a perpendicular manner, inducing therein a cyclic voltage and a current flow. Abstract: Low-cost, high performance woven conductors and associated inductive apparatus, and methods for manufacturing and utilizing the same. In one embodiment, an eight (8) conductor wiring strand is used that results in a pattern in which a given conductor resides, on average, at an equal position throughout the braid grouping as any other conductor within the wire strand over a given length. Such a configuration enhances coupling among the conductors, which minimizes deleterious parasitic effects such as leakage inductance and distributed capacitance. Segmented woven wiring strands are also disclosed which are composed of both woven and non-woven portions. Examples of devices which can utilize the woven conductors include, without limitation, bobbins or other formers, headers, encapsulated electronic packages, modular jacks, form-less inductive devices and transmission lines.

  • Patent number: 8310329
Abstract: The interleaved common mode transformer is a transformer particularly well suited for providing low voltage, high current dc outputs. Improving the efficiency of low voltage, high current transformer circuits requires a multi-faceted approach. Ac terminations and ac currents in connecting circuitry are particularly troublesome, so the input and output terminations of the transformer are dc. To utilize the winding fully, a common-mode push-pull configuration with common mode capacitors is used. Stray capacitance is less of a concern than leakage inductance at low voltages, so the windings are highly interleaved. Separate parallel secondary windings are used, an ac winding primarily for the ac currents, and a dc winding primarily for dc currents and heat sinking. The ac windings are thin; approximately two times the penetration depth. The dc windings are substantial, for low voltage drop and good heat sinking.

  • Patent number: 4395693
Abstract: The invention relates to an electrical winding for a transformer, a choke coil or the like, particularly for high frequencies, wherein the conductor forming the winding is radially subdivided into n subconductors and within the winding the subconductors are twisted in such a manner that the initially innermost subconductor, after twisting comes to lie outermost, the subconductor in the second innermost position, after twisting comes to lie at the second outermost position, etc. If the subconductors are designed as conductor tapes, the subconductors 1 through (n-1) comprise two partially overlapping tape sections which in the overlap region are conductively connected together at the side edges of the tape, the n.sup.th conductor tape being made of one piece and forming one of the outwardly disposed subconductors of the conductor.

A total of n/2-1 groups of four adjacent subconductor planes, respectively, are formed at the upper and lower sides of the multiplanar conductor bar by exclusively mutual crossover of the subconductors of the respective four adjacent subconductor planes and exclusively in a transition between the respective outer and the respective inner planes of the four planes. The respective groups of four adjacent planes are mutually offset at the lower side with respect to the upper side by two subconductor planes.

Abstract: A disk wound transformer winding employing at least two external electrostatic shields extending axially along the outside of the disk winding for grading the impulse voltage within the winding. The inner external shield closest to the winding is connected to the line terminal and the outer external shield is connected to ground. A substantially linear voltage gradient under impulse conditions is attained by the combination of a disk winding arrangement and a specifically tailored assembly of external shields extending along the outside of the winding.

  • Patent number: 4295071
Abstract: The insulation requirements of a lattice bar for inhibiting glow discharges can be reduced by providing longitudinal notches in the bending portions of the flat spacing conductors in the lattice bar. The notches can be provided on one or both sides of the spacing conductors in dependence upon the degree of twist of the conductors in the lattice bar. The extent to which the notches extend across the spacing conductors can also be a function of the degree of twist.

  • Patent number: 4262163
Abstract: In a busway having plural busbars disposed with their broad sides in face-to-face relation, the ends of longitudinally aligned outside busbars are cut at complementary angles to create a single edge connecting segment for each busbar which extends through a phase transposition zone. Upper and lower transverse connectors are welded at their opposed ends to transversely aligned edge connecting segments to effectively reverse the phase positions of the busbars upstream and downstream of the transposition zone. If the busway includes two inside busbars, phase transposition is achieved in similar fashion. Once insulatively coated, the phase transpositioned busbars are nested together to create a compact transposition zone having a transverse dimension no greater than the busway therebeyond.

  • Patent number: 4258467
Abstract: A primary coil and N secondary coils of insulated electrically conductive wire are wound side-by-side about a ferrite core. Every T turns, the wire forming the secondary coils is wound over a separator strip forming an array of loops. A pair of spaced parallel conductors, for displacing the separator strip, are inserted in the array of loops and are soldered to the loops. The loop portion in the space between the conductors is removed. The assembly is covered with a layer of insulating material. The windings are repeated in a second or more layers over the first layer until the desired number of primary and secondary turns is formed.

  • Patent number: 4176237
Abstract: The present invention concerns an induction furnace. It is the object of the invention to increase the power of such furnaces while maintaining their weight or space requirements, or, to reduce their weight or space requirements for a given power, or further to design machines more powerful than those known at the present time. There exist at this time crucible induction furnaces designed for a capacity of approximately 30 t of cast iron. The invention permits the adaptation of such a furnace to melt not case iron, but steel and to increase the capacity of said furnace to a higher order of magnitude, for example 100 t or more. To enable the furnace to satisfy the requirements of steel making, the invention also provides for an increase in specific power, presently limited to approximately 300 kW/t.

  • Patent number: 4080543
Abstract: A novel winding assembly of the gap winding type electric rotary machine is arranged on the inner periphery of the slotless magnetic core of the machine. The winding comprises a plurality of congregated twisted strands each including a plurality of insulated thin wires. The congregated strands are twisted in opposite directions in such a manner as to offset the effect of magnetic fluxes produced in adjacent twisted strands axially thereof, thereby reducing the reactance of the winding on the one hand and dampening the vibration and propulsive force which otherwise might be generated in the electric rotary machine.
