  • Patent number: 11338350
Abstract: A method for permanently fastening a cam on a cam carrier may involve positioning the cam on the cam carrier in a predefined axial and angular position. By way of the positioning, an end face of the cam carrier is aligned with an end face of the cam. The method may also involve positioning a cam segment formed by the cam carrier and the cam in an assembly device. The cam carrier may then be deformed such that the cam is secured at least in a form-fitting or force-fitting manner against movement in an axial direction on the cam carrier. A deformation tool of the assembly device may be advanced in an axial direction onto the end face of the cam carrier, and the cam carrier may be deformed such that material of the cam carrier is forced outward in a radial direction against the cam.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for making a connection that can be rotationally locked by expansion are disclosed. Threaded tubular ends include a slot cut across a thread at a location along the circumference of the thread. Threading two tubular members that have the slot disposed in either or both of a pin or box end of the tubular members establishes the connection. The slots represent no impediment to the make-up or break-out of a box by pin connection prior to expansion. During expansion of the connection, the threads of either the box or pin end are forced via plastic flow into the slot in the corresponding thread. This results in locking the connection and preventing relative rotation between the two tubular members, which could otherwise loosen the connection.

Abstract: A magnetic disk cartridge has a first cassette shell half provided with engagement holes and a second cassette shell half provided with engagement pins. Each engagement hole has an entrance portion enabling insertion of an engagement pin and a shoulder-like engagement portion following the entrance portion. Each engagement pin has an elastic structure enabling it to be compressed and is formed at its tip portion with a bulged portion. The bulged portion is formed at its distal end with a tapered portion and at its proximal end with a sloped provisional retaining surface. The first and second cassette shell halves are formed on inner surfaces thereof with abutting surfaces. The cassette shell halves are provisionally assembled in the final assembly step by bringing the sloped provisional retaining surface of the bulged portion of the engagement pin engaged with the engagement hole into engagement with the shoulder-like engagement portion and bringing the abutting surfaces into abutment with each other.

Abstract: A nock that mounts to an arrow shaft. The nock is designed of a light weight plastic material. It incorporates the use of a mechanical locking mechanism to secure it to the end of an arrow shaft. The portion of the nock that is inserted into the arrow shaft, or the insert end of the nock, is expanded by a small set screw located inside a cavity in the insert end of the nock. This expansion of the nock presses against the inside walls of the arrow consequently locking the nock in place. The nock is designed to mount securely to the arrow shaft without the use of adhesives or glue.

Abstract: One of cassette shell halves has a cylindrical body protruding toward the other cassette shell half. The cylindrical body has a rivet press-fit hole and is constituted of elastic engagement pieces. The other cassette shell half has an opening for rivet insertion formed in an outer surface, and an engagement piece receiving hole, which communicates from the opening for rivet insertion to the inner surface of the other cassette shell half and has a tapered inner wall surface having the diameter increasing from an end, that stands facing the one cassette shell half, toward the opening for rivet insertion. When the elastic engagement pieces have been inserted into the engagement piece receiving hole, the elastic engagement pieces are brought into pressure contact with the tapered surface of the engagement piece receiving hole by a rivet, which is press-fitted through the opening for rivet insertion and into the rivet press-fit hole, and the cassette shell halves are thus temporarily assembled to each other.

Abstract: A method of forming a tube joint which can be used in a desalination plant includes providing a fluted tube, applying a sealant to the tube end and inserting the tube end into a tube sheet or plate to form a joint therebetween. After insertion, the inner surface of the fluted tube is worked to deform external ridges of the fluted tube and uniformly distribute the sealant throughout the joint area. The fluted tube is deformed using a roll expanding method. The fluted design of the tube retains sealant in the joint area during tube insertion and expansion and takes advantage of the heat transfer characteristic of the flutes to provide an improved joint construction especially adapted for heat exchange use.
