With Means To Permit Subsequent Hand Operation Patents (Class 83/59)
  • Patent number: 8490527
Abstract: Woodworking machines are disclosed having cutting tools for cutting workpieces. The machines include a detection system adapted to detect one or more dangerous conditions between a person and the cutting tool. The machines also include a mechanism having a moveable component adapted to move upon detection of the dangerous condition by the detection system. Movement of the moveable component contributes to one or more of the following actions to mitigate or prevent injury to the person: deceleration of the cutting tool, retraction of the cutting tool, and placement of a barrier over at least a part of the cutting tool. An actuator is adapted to move the moveable component at a high acceleration when the dangerous condition is detected.

Abstract: Woodworking machines are disclosed having cutting tools for cutting workpieces. The machines include a detection system adapted to detect one or more dangerous conditions between a person and the cutting tool. The machines also include at least one brake component adapted to engage and stop movement of the cutting tool, and an actuator adapted to move the brake component into contact with the cutting tool at a high acceleration when the detection system detects the dangerous condition between the person and the blade.

  • Patent number: 5979276
Abstract: A skiving apparatus for simultaneously skiving the outer and inner surfaces of an end of reinforced hose. The apparatus comprises an outer diameter cutting tool, an internal skiving mandrel and a bracket for holding the outer diameter cutting tool and the internal skiving mandrel in a substantially perpendicular relation. The internal skiving mandrel has a nose for coaxially receiving a hose end thereover, spiral cutting threads and a stop collar. To achieve the desired simultaneous skiving effect, the internal skiving mandrel and the outer diameter cutting tool have a coincident cutting direction. Thus, when the hose is fed over the mandrel and the apparatus is rotated the simultaneous skiving of the inner and outer surfaces of the hose is accomplished.

  • Patent number: 5725724
Abstract: A facer for use with a plastic pipe butt fusion machine, the machine being of the type that supports two lengths of plastic pipe in spaced apart, end-to-end relationship. The facer has a housing supportable to a butt fusion machine that includes a driven gear rotatably with first and second paralleled facer plates affixed to opposed surfaces of the driven gear. Each facer plate has shapers that, when forced against the ends of plastic pipe shave off portion of the pipe so that the ends become uniform and perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the pipe. A motor is supposed to the housing and includes a drive shaft having a drive gear that is coupled to the driven gear by a chain. An overriding clutch connects the motor drive shaft to the drive gear.
