  • Patent number: 5439372
Abstract: A gaseous fuel burner and method in which a high-firing rate (blue/non-surface radiant) zone is created between two lower firing rate (red/surface radiant) combustion zones. The method of the invention can be achieved by selective perforation of porous sintered fiber mat burner surfaces to achieve improved burner performance and relatively low NO.sub.x emissions.

  • Patent number: 5424163
Abstract: An electrostatic latent image is formed by the Carlson process, etc. on a base (photosensitive body) to develop the electrostatic latent image by a solidification developer in which coloring agent particles are dispersed into a dispersion medium in a solid state at an ordinary temperature and adapted to reversibly repeat fusion by heating at about 30.degree. C. at a temperature above a melting point and solidification by cooling, thus to form a developer picture. Thereafter, the base and a transferred body are caused to be subjected to pressure-contact and heating process to fuse the dispersion medium at a pressure-contact and heating temperature more than the melting point of the dispersion medium to subsequently cool the dispersion medium down to a temperature less than the melting point to peel the transferred body to transfer the developer picture onto the transferred body.

  • Patent number: 5420107
Abstract: A supplement containing lactic acid salts and/or polymers, and optionally simple and/or complex carbohydrates, is employed to promote energy supply, fluid and electrolyte balance, blood glucose homeostasis, blood pH buffering and muscle as well as liver glycogen storage during and after strenuous exercise. The disclosed composition takes advantage of the presence of sodium-mediated intestinal lactate and glucose transporters, intestinal conversion of glucose to lactate, hepatic formation of glycogen from lactate, the preferential uptake of lactate for fuel by cardiac and red skeletal muscles, the alkalizing effect of the combustion of lactate to CO.sub.2 and H.sub.2 O and conversion to glucose of glycogen, and the presence of a sarcolemmal (muscle cell membrane) lactate/hydrogen ion (symport) transport protein to provide beneficial nutritional supplementation during exercise and subsequent recovery.

  • Patent number: 5420724
Abstract: A computer is connected to VTR units and a CRT monitor through lines. Each of the computer and the units to be controlled thereby is provided with a clock means for sharing the same time. The computer sends to the VTR unit a command for releasing record pause state and starting the record operation at time T1. After the VTR unit started the record operation, when the counter value became x, the VTR unit sends time Tx to the computer. The computer computes formulaD=Tx-T1-xso as to obtain delay time D. In determining the present tape position of the VTR, the computer obtains data of counter value Pc and time Tc from the VTR, and assigns the present tape position Pn of the VTR using the formulaPn=Pc+(Tn-Tc),where Tn is the time at which the controller receives the signal from the VTR.

  • Patent number: 5415291
Abstract: A casing for containing a plurality of disc cartridges each having an optical disc contained in it includes a first casing main member, a second casing main member and a partitioning member. The first casing main member is provided with a first holding section for resiliently holding one of the disc cartridges. The second casing main member is provided with a second holding section for resiliently holding another disc cartridge. The partitioning member includes a pair of plate-shaped sections and a connecting section interconnecting the plate-shaped sections in parallel with each other. The first and the second casing main members are rotatably arranged between the plate-shaped sections so that the holding sections are directed inwardly and so that the first and second casing main members face each other with the connection section in-between.

  • Patent number: 5416766
Abstract: An apparatus playback of an optical recording medium where data are recorded after combined calculation of a difference signal and a sum signal generated by detecting reference patterns and the return light reflected from the optical recording medium. The recording medium has tracks formed at such a pitch that at least two tracks are scanned simultaneously by a spot of a light beam irradiated onto the recording surface. Each track has data composed of wobble pits formed at positions deviated from the track center and a multiplicity of pits formed exactly on the track center, wherein the multiple pits and the wobble pits are disposed successively. The apparatus comprises an optical detector and a signal discriminator. The optical detector has first and second adjacent light receiving areas divided along the tangential direction of the tracks and serving to receive the return light reflected from the optical recording medium.
