  • Publication number: 20150073151
Abstract: An improved process for obtaining at least one bis-benzyl isoquinoline alkaloid from botanical material involves contacting the botanical material with a supercritical fluid having as a major component one or more aliphatic hydrocarbon compounds, such as alkanes, alkenes, cyclic aliphatic hydrocarbons, or a combination of these compounds.

  • Publication number: 20070104741
Abstract: A self-emulsifying drug delivery system to improve dissolution, stability, and bioavailability of drug compounds of dronabinol or other cannabinoids. The drug compound(s) are dissolved in an oily medium (e.g. triglycerides and/or mixed glycerides and/or free fatty acids containing medium and/or long chain saturated, mono-unsaturated, and/or poly-unsaturated free fatty acids) together with at least one surfactant. The surfactant promotes self-emulsification, thereby promoting targeted chylomicron delivery and optimal bioavailability to a mammalian intestinal lumen. A dosage form can optionally include co-solvents, anti-oxidants, viscosity modifying agents, cytochrome P450 metabolic inhibitors, P-GP efflux inhibitors, and amphiphilic/non-amphiphilic solutes to induce semi-solid formation for targeted release rates.

  • Publication number: 20020117175
Abstract: A drug delivery device for delivery of a drug to the lungs of a user includes a tubular housing having a mouth a mouthpiece, a heat source, and a middle section between the mouthpiece and the heat source. The middle section has an chamber containing a plurality of inert inorganic particles which have a drug adsorbed as a coating thereon. The heat source, the plurality of inert inorganic particles in the middle section and the mouthpiece are fluidly connected through an interior passageway of the tubular housing and the distal end section is fluidly connected to outside air. When a user applies suction to the mouthpiece, air from the outside is drawn into the heat source by suction and is heated, and the heated air is drawn into the chamber of the middle section to heat, volatilize and desorb the drug from the inert particles. The volatilized and desorbed drug is then drawn from the chamber of the middle section into the mouthpiece and then into the mouth and lungs of the user.
