The material may be spaced apart from the electrodes, but preferably touches one of them. The particles are trapped generally throughout the thickness of the filter material but ample room is left for continued air flow. The electrostatic voltage is preferably between 3 and 9 kV and is largely independent of electrode spacing. The configuration of the filter material is such that the flow velocity through the material is less than 0.1 m/sec, preferably on the order of 0.03 m/sec.

    Abstract: A system and method for altering the amount of electrical energy supplied to a plurality of fluorescent lamps, has a first switch connected in series between a source of electrical energy and a plurality of lamps connected in parallel. A second switch is connected in series with less than all of the lamps and is an electrically actuated toggle switch which responds to actuation of the wall switch. Multiple actuation of the wall switch permits turning all lights on or off or some on while others are off.

One of those tones is interrupted at a sub-audible rate of 3 to 8 Hz.     Abstract: An improved ground fault tester uses a magnetostrictive element or piezo-electric element, such as a multimorph, which changes dimensions upon being magnetized or electrically charged. The dimensional change is used to interrupt the power circuit in which the ground fault occurs. The existence of a ground fault is sensed by a sensor which supplies current to the magnetostrictive or piezo-electric element. In the case of the piezo-electric element, the charge is dissipated through a parallel discharge circuit whereby interruption of the power circuit is accomplished rapidly and is reclosed only after a time delay. Automatic time delay resetting may be easily accomplished by the addition of a single resistor and a rectifier.
