  • Patent number: 6048487
Abstract: Improved apparatus and methods for forming a layer of material over a surface of a previously-formed cross-section of a three-dimensional object in anticipation of forming a next cross-section of the object out of the layer. A volume of material, including at least some excess material, is placed over the surface, and the excess material is swept off by placing the excess material in the predetermined path of a sweeping member, the path being substantially in a plane spaced from a working surface of material. The member may be directed to sweep the excess material away through a successive number of sweeps, which may vary for each cross-section, at least a velocity which may vary for each sweep. Additionally, the clearance between the member and the surface of the previous cross-section may vary for each sweep. A "winged" member is also provided, comprising two legs extending from a base, and a "Trident" embodiment is also provided, comprising three legs extending from a base.

  • Patent number: 6031968
Abstract: A humidifying system particularly for incubators and a process for humidifying incubators is disclosed. The system includes a float valve with a sleeve-shaped float housing with a float body axially displaceable therein as well as a throttle valve influencing the flow of liquid. The throttle valve is actuated depending on the relative movement of the float body in relation to the float housing, and by the external diameter of the float body and the internal diameter of the float housing being selected to be such that a capillary gap wetted with liquid is present. With this construction, the reference level for the setting of the liquid level remains unchanged due to the float valve being designed as a hollow float body axially displaceable in a float housing with a liquid-filled, annular capillary gap between the float body and the float housing.

  • Patent number: 6023667
Abstract: The present invention is an apparatus for monitoring the running time and cycle time of electric motors. The apparatus diagnoses fuel consumption and burner functionality in heating plants by measuring elapsed motor running time. Alternatively, the apparatus diagnoses the running and cycle time of refrigeration and air conditioning motors for the purpose of measuring efficiency and predicting failures. The Apparatus has three major components: an inductive sensor device mechanically attached to the motor; a microprocessor device connected by cable to the inductive sensor device that records time and sensor device data and retransmits it; and the central monitoring device. The microprocessor device is connected by telephone to the central monitoring device. Using historical data of fuel deliveries and consumption and the sensor-supplied running time information, the central monitoring device will predict when the fuel tank needs refilling. The data can be used to indicate a failure has occurred.

Abstract: A float device is disclosed with an improved external surface having an outwardly concave curvature and a plurality of elongated grooves spirally formed on the concave surface. The concave surface provides improved clearance between the float device and the walls of the pipe that it is disposed in. Therefore, the float device is less subject to being lodged or stuck especially in highly viscous liquids. The spiral grooves provide additional passageway and stability by imparting rotational torque to the floating device when measuring flow rates in moving fluids in pipes. In another embodiment, the float device is annular in shape having an inner surface with a curvature and spiral grooves. Same improved effects are obtained as the float device rides up and down a column like a collar in measuring the fluid level or fluid flow rates.

The object is constructed from many successive layers of the solidified reactive liquid medium when subjected to appropriate synergistic stimulation. A reservoir contains both the reactive liquid medium and an underlying supporting, substantially immiscible, non-reactive liquid medium. Abstract: In a computer controlled automatic plotting device, an ink level detector is provided in a plotter pen cartridge. An ink-following object is provided in the plotter pin cartridge and is supported by the writing fluid. The ink-following object carries a magnet. As the ink-following object traverses down the inside of the plotter pen cartridge, the position of the magnet triggers a sensor at a predetermined level. The sensor then effects a visual or audible signal to alert an operator that the cartridge is running out of writing fluid. Alternatively, the sensor activates a control system to shut down the plotting device to permit replacement of the plotter pen cartridge with one having a new ink supply.

The device has a portability similar to that of a regular dip stick, but provides more accurate measurement of liquid level especially with liquids which do not show up clearly on a dip stick. The device has a tube which is open at its lower end and a guideway within the tube along which a float can move. Rollers are mounted near the upper and lower ends of the tube and carry a loop of flexible tape connected to the float. The tape has indicia on its external surface which can be read on a sight glass mounted at the upper end of the tube. All of the moving parts are protected within the tube.

Abstract: A fuel sender mount comprises a support rod, a mounting plate secured at one end of the support rod and bolted to the top wall of the fuel tank, a carriage slideably mounted to the support rod and secured to the fuel sender housing and a spring for resiliently urging the carriage downwardly away from the top wall of the tank. The lower end of the carriage is received in a guide socket so that the fuel sender remains fixedly positioned with respect to the fuel tank. The mount is particularly useful in a fuel tank having a resiliently deformable bottom which can be deformed upwardly upon contact with a foreign object. During such contact, the carriage slides along the support rod to prevent puncturing of the bottom wall of the tank, and the force of the contact is not directed against the support rod or the mounting plate with sufficient force to cause the mounting bolts to rip through the top wall of the fuel tank or otherwise rupture the fuel tank.

Abstract: A fluid measurement gauge is principally used to measure the fluid level in large underground storage tanks, such as for storing gasoline at service stations. A housing is positioned vertically in the fluid and includes a leadscrew which is driven by a stepper motor. A nut is mounted for longitudinal movement along the leadscrew. A float encircles the housing and includes a magnet at the surface of the fluid level. A magnetic sensor, such as a Hall-effect switch, is mounted on the nut and driven in selected steps downward to encounter the magnet mounted in the float. A reference position is marked at the top of the housing and the fluid level is measured downward from the reference position by detecting the magnet by operation of the magnetic sensor. An additional float can be provided to detect the interface between two fluids such as gasoline and water. The second float is further provided with a magnet to be detected by the magnetic sensor.
