  • Patent number: 6322821
Abstract: A composition for preventing and treating milk fever in freshening cows, and a method of administering the composition. The basic composition is a mixture of water, calcium chloride, propylene glycol, B vitamins and minerals. The calcium content is lower than conventional calcium treatments used for this purpose. The propylene glycol gives the cow an energy boost and sweetens the taste so the cow does not object to it as it does to conventional gels and liquids. The B vitamins stimulate the cow's appetite. The minerals replace minerals lost in the milk and also help the cow absorb calcium. The composition of the present invention is in a liquid form and is preferably administered using a 200-300 cc drench gun. The end of the dispensing tube of the drench gun is placed between the teeth and cheek of the cow near the receptors that stimulate the esophageal groove reflex.

  • Patent number: 6149947
Abstract: Higher concentrations of oak bark ash extract, i.e., greater than 20% by weight, are useful for the treatment of skin cancers. Lower concentrations of oak bark extract possess additional therapeutic properties not heretofore recognized. For example, preparations containing 40-80% oak bark extract are useful in the treatment of acute cancerous skin ulcers. In addition, synthetic mixtures containing potassium ions, zinc ions, calcium ions provide many of the same advantageous properties of oak bark extract. The inclusion of rubidium ions and sulfur is also advantageous for some applications.

  • Patent number: 6110504
Abstract: An artificial plasma-like substance having at least one water soluble polysaccharide oncotic agent selected from the group consisting of high molecular weight hydroxyethyl starch, low molecular weight hydroxyethyl starch, dextran 40 and dextran 70, and albumin which is buffered by lactate and has a pre-administration pH of between 5 and 6.5 is disclosed. Also disclosed is an artificial plasma-like solution having at least two water soluble polysaccharide oncotic agents one of which is eliminated from the circulation slowly and the other of which is eliminated from the circulation quickly. Supplimentation of the plasma-like solution with certain ions is described. A system for administration of the plasma-like solution to a subject wherein the system comprises a first and second solution each having particular buffers is described. The plasma-like solution including cryoprotective adducts is also disclosed.
